Belated Happy Halloween!

Whatever that means because I can’t seem to find the right reason to be happy for the dead or to celebrate a day for the dead. Why?! We think that’ll make them happy, celebrating their death, shoving to these people’s faces that they’re dead and we commemorate it? I think it’s more of a celebration of our being alive than of them being dead. We are so damn happy we are alive and we need to confirm it by inventing a day to remember the dead. Well, at least we get a holiday and businesses get their share of death benefits in the form of profits.

I spent my Halloween getting bored at home, watching dvds, doing some of my paperworks. I really don’t have any close dead relative to be happy for or to remember as we subtly call it. I’m not really psyched up for one. Candles and flowers and fares for going home are expensive. Also, it’s not as fun as watching dvds.

I’m hooked to this medical series called ‘House.’ I finished the full two seasons and I can’t wait for the next. Highly recommended. I guarantee that you (if you’re a girl or gay or in doubts) will surely fall in love with that old, nasty, arrogant Dr. House by the end of the pilot episode. The series is intelligent and witty, spewing out medical jargons you’ll pretend to understand. It is also one of the top shows in the States. Are Americans really that smart? One of my professors in UP said that Americans are dumb and I believed him because it felt good to imagine the population of the world’s most powerful nation as dumb. But judging from what they watch, now I’m doubting that professor’s credibility.

How I wish we can do a similar show here! Of course, wishful thinking because the greatest horror in Philippine TV is its audience–its dumb, ignorant jologs masa audiences. Now that doesn’t feel good. I wish I could just stick to my Americans-are-dumb statement.

Welcome to the fearsome realities of Philippine mass media!

Happy Halloween!
